Boardwalk on the River Shannon

We have just completed our work for the new boardwalk on the River Shannon in Limerick City beside St. John’s Castle. It’s truly a beautiful and historical area there and I would not have realised it’s significance before.

However, we were contracted by the main contractor Carillion to manufacture and install all the Stainless Steel elements of the railing along the boardwalk. We had to design feature posts with stainless steel tension cables which terminate inside the posts and so reducing the risk of outside interference. We also had to fabricate the continuous handrail section which was then encased in timber. It has got to be the biggest size handrail we have been involved in by far. The handrail section posed a serious challenge due to it’s size and the fact that it was tilted at an angle and curved. The section could not be rolled so we manufactured it from 4 plates which were profiled and pressed into shape. All worked out pretty good even if I do say so myself.

Well done to all our guys involved on this project. It’s nice to see it completed and ready for use.

Regards, Martin.
